Research Objectives

To estimate the incidence of invasive pneumococcaldisease and pneumonia, distribution of pneumococcal serotypes,and antibiotic susceptibility in children aged 28 days to 60months.

Research outcomes

This prospective study provided the incidence rate of invasive pneumococcal diseases and S. pneumoniae serotype distribution among young children in an urban area in Southern India. Notably, this was the first prospective study to document the presence of serotypes 3, 6A, and 19A in children with invasive pneumococcal disease in India.
